Highly Anticipated "H Street Extension Project" Groundbreaking Ceremony
More than 100 people
gathered Wednesday, November 13, 2013, on the Chula Vista Bayfront for an event to
kick off the long-awaited H Street Extension Project, which will connect the
waterfront to the main streets in western Chula Vista.
In attendance was Pacific Coast Commercial's Maria Toscano, Sales and Leasing Broker Associate, along with Chula Vista Mayor, Cheryl Cox and the former Chula Vista Mayor, Shirley Horton.
The
ceremonial groundbreaking, hosted by the Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista, marked the start
of the $7.2 million project, approved by the Board of Port Commissioners on
September 10, 2013. H Street will be extended westerly from Bay Boulevard,
where it currently dead-ends, to Marina Parkway.
Terms
of the Proposed Exchange and Land Uses:
- The Port would
receive 97 acres of land near E Street, immediately adjacent to the
National Wildlife Refuge.
- Pacifica
Companies would receive 35 acres of land near J Street, immediately east
of the Chula Vista marina.
For
the Port:
The 97 acres would be used for open space buffers and areas for habitat
replacement opportunities. There would also be an 18-acre signature park with
connecting walking trails, overlooks, and picnic areas; 120,000 square feet of
commercial recreation development; a 750-room environmentally themed hotel; and
the relocation of the Chula Vista Nature Center's parking lot.
For
Pacifica:
The proposed uses for the 35 acres it would acquire include a mix of uses: a
1,500 mid-rise and high-rise residential units; 15,000 square feet of ground
floor retail; 420,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial and office space; and
a 250-room hotel.
