Developer Plans $44M Mixed-Use Project in Encanto

A committee
of Civic San Diego, the city’s project oversight agency for downtown and
southeastern neighborhoods, recently recommended plans for a $44 million
mixed-use community in Encanto.
The project
by Affirmed Housing is subject to review by Civic San Diego’s executive board
and San Diego City Council. The proposed development, which would be built on
8.5 acres of city-owned land, was selected from among three proposals submitted
by local developers.
A statement
from San Diego-based Affirmed Housing, which is focused on affordable housing,
said the project is proposed for a site at Hilltop Drive and Euclid Avenue.
Planned elements include 44 market-rate single-family homes, 84 affordable
apartments, and 8,300 square feet of retail spaces.
Developers
said the walk-able community would also have a pedestrian bridge, with a pocket
park and other community space that can be used for local events, such as a
farmers’ market. There would be drought-tolerant landscaping and other elements
to merge the development with the surrounding community.
