San Diego County Welcomes
Weston Community
After
years of dedication and hard work, the environmentally friendly community in San Diego County, known as the Weston is now open for viewing. The 400+- acres
of land was sold by 15 different land owners who were collaboratively and solely represented by David Dilday,
Director of Land Development & Investment Sales at Pacific Coast
Commercial. The land sold for a total of $22 million and the project consists
of 415
single family homes
priced in the high $500’s to the mid $800’s.
The
project plans were submitted to the City of San Diego for initial review in
2003. In September 2013, the San Diego City Council
unanimously approved the Weston project, formerly known as Castlerock, and
recommended annexation of the project into the City of Santee. In October 2013,
the Santee City Council approved the Annexation Agreement for Weston and the
grading began in July 2016.
The
previously owned government land used for World War II training was swept for
live ordnance by army core engineers before the project was considered. Three
years were also spent addressing environmental issues and impacts of the land, such
as the protection and restoration of vernal pools and the endangered species
associated with them.
The
pursuit of the Weston was a long and well-groomed plan due to the determination
and goodwill behind the betterment of the community. The Pardee project was
designed to reduce general density and preserve and protect environmental and
visual resources with permanent open space and recreational opportunities. This
was accomplished by building parks near homes, accessible by public roads and
trails, contributing to public infrastructure enhancements for water, sewer and
utility systems.
The
Weston project generated hundreds of temporary construction and permanent jobs
for San Diego and Santee residents. Pardee
Homes has also retained local Santee contractor TC Construction Co., Inc. to
install the storm drains, sewer and water improvements, which also began in the
fall of 2016. It was made a priority to involve as many local companies
throughout the design, approval and development of Weston. The selection of
local contractors is just another example of Pardee’s commitment to the
communities it serves.
The
modern style homes surrounded by a 5-acre park offers great views to the East while
allowing community members an active outdoor life style, with easy access to
East County’s striking Mission Trails Regional Park. Santee is found at the midpoint, just 15 miles east of La Jolla and located
midway between Encinitas and Chula Vista. Driving to downtown, Mission Valley,
UTC and Sorrento Mesa, with the accessible 52, 125 and 8 freeways expedite
regional travel.
Weston
will attract new consumers to the retail market, benefitting the local economy
in East San Diego County and neighboring communities. Pardee is working with the cities of San Diego and
Santee, including local school districts, the Padre Dam Municipal Water
District, Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation and key community and
business leaders, to help make Weston one of the region’s best-planned
communities.
