The Road to Success in Commercial Real Estate
It must start with “Vision to Action – Your Ideals”
What do I honestly want from my life?
These questions apply to all success stories, not just commercial real estate.
No matter what your age or life phase you are in, you must answer these questions.
- What do I value
most?
- What do I think
about all day long?
- What do I spend
my excess money on?
- What’s important
to me…do I even know or am I just trying to make money?
I need to clearly understand what I want and define it, “this is my definition of success”. This won’t be easy and takes time and soul searching but is mandatory for you to lead a happy and successful life. Take the time to answer these questions in great detail before moving on, it will be well worth it in the long run.
1. What will it take to achieve this Success I have defined?
a. Create a complete “To Do Checklist” of the time, talent, and treasure it will take…what must I do to accomplish my dream of success?
b. Am I really willing to pay the price…what pain and rejection will I encounter? Rejection may be common in many industries, including commercial real estate. If you can’t or not willing to pay the price now go back to Step 1 before moving forward.
c. Find others who have obtained what you want to achieve and emulate them, read all their materials and background, create a similar likeness with your fingerprint on it, personalize with your character, but don’t try and reinvent the entire process…think about McDonald’s.
d. Usually you will find the shortest distance and greatest degree of personal success will come from helping others around you obtain their goals, and then giving them the credit for it.
2. Take Action daily on your Vision to take things off my “To Do Checklist”
a. Put in long hours and take time every day to get your plan in motion…Hard Hard work.
b. There are no overnight successes or short-cuts here, none, every success comes from a plan of hard and smart work…”The Harder I Work the Luckier I get”.
We become what we think about and the people we associate with. Fly with the Eagles, don’t scratch with the Turkeys
a. Hang out with winners and hard workers; create good habits and make them your master.
b. Dump your loser friends and clients, they only bring you down whether you know it or not
c. Mastermind Groups- Network Groups, tons of value here but you need to plan ahead of time for the events with the right questions and a specific plan.
4. What am I already good or great at? What comes easy to me? What are my core talents and beliefs?
a. What are my passions, what do I love to do? This answer will create an enhanced lifestyle that you will be compensated for…you will never have a “job” but a career that you love, whether that’s commercial property management or something completely different.
b. How does the economy reward for these talents, is there strong enough economic value here for me to obtain my career financial goal?
5. Summation of Ideals before the Tactics of a Daily Plan
Knowledge – I must understand my product and/or service better each and every day. Complete comprehension is not a destination but an ongoing journey in which the market rewards and values very highly.
Network – We must be well connected with both clients and industry affiliates on a face to face & technology basis. The world is getting faster and more competitive all the time, have real personal relationships that last forever and that you can count on when in need.
Love – We must have real passion for what we do in our lives otherwise we will wake up one day and realize we did not reach our full potential as a human being, and added nothing to the world we left behind. Be Kind, have complete Honesty, and High Integrity.
Ask yourself these questions each day as a monitor towards progress:
1. What did I learn today?
2. Who did I meet today?
3. Am I living my values today?
